Silverstone is the home of British Motor Racing and venue for the annual British Grand Prix. As well as Formula One, Silverstone also has many other attractions, like the Touring Car Series, Rallysprint, Motorcycle sports and also a comprehensive rally/racing driving school. Silverstone is 12 miles/20 kilometres south-west of Northampton and motor sport enthusiasts frequently use The Langham Hotel as their base.

The Northampton Balloon Festival has been established as one of the main hot air events in Europe. It it not just a chance to see numerous balloons of different shapes, sizes and colour, from one seater balloons to the immense specialised character ones. There is also a huge array of local and traditional stalls/goods to in the market along with numerous entertainments including live bands and a fun fair. The building of Castle Ashby was commenced by Henry, 1st Lord Compton, in 1574 and was continued by his son, William, later created Earl of Northampton. Queen Elizabeth I's inaugural visit to this 'faire stately house' as Camden then described it, was in 1600. Like other houses of its date, it was built in the shape of the letter E, a porch and flight of steps forming the stroke of the E.
